Procedure to follow in the event of windshield damage
When your windshield is damaged, you proceed to the service department of your authorized automobile dealership with your warranty certificate which you will find in your glove box along with the original warranty label attached to your windshield.
Definition of reparable damage and maximum size of windshield damage that can be repaired
In order to determine if a crack is repairable, there must be a point of impact with at least one apparent fissure. It is possible to have one point of impact without any fissure. This point of impact can not be considered for repair because it is impossible for fracture to expand.
If the damaged portion of the windshield is approximately the size of a (1) dollar, the repair can be performed with no difficulty. If the damaged portion of the windshield exceeds this size, it will be necessary to proceed to your authorized automobile dealer for an evaluation to determine if the repair is possible.
Questions ans answers you need to know before repairing your windshield
- Why do we repair a fracture?
- We repair minor cracks to stop fissures from expanding as the windshield is exposed to torsion from such things as impacts over bumps, pot holes in the road or expansion from heating and air conditioning, or simply washing with cold water on a warm windshield. Remember all these conditions contribute to the expansion of windshield cracks.
- Can the fissures expand during the repair procedure?
- It is possible throughout the repair procedure that the fissure may expand and become no longer repairable. If this is the case and replacement of your windshield is required, we will proceed with your approval to replace the windshield and the certified original windshield warranty will be automatically transfered to the new windshield installed by your authorized dealer.
- Why will repaired crack not completely disappear?
- We inject an acrylic resin which is a different material with a degree of refraction of light that is not the same as glass.
